Hell Ride Rebellion

Starring iconic tough guys Dennis Hopper, David Carradine, Vinnie Jones and Michael Madsen, “Hell Ride” is a drive-in movie if ever there was one, with all the sex and violence of a typical ’70s exploitation film or Spaghetti Western.

The film is the focal point of “Hell Ride Rebellion,” an event that features thematically appropriate festivities preceding the screening, including a motorcycle and scooter showcase and a performance by Blast-Off Burlesque that incorporates elements of biker culture. Local ’70s-style punk and garage bands Thee Crucials and the Luchagors will also perform, and Jalapeño Concessions will offer hand-dipped corndogs. Each pass admits two and includes a triple bill with “Hellboy II” and “Wanted.”

Thanks to everyone who came out for Go West! last night at Alcove. We seriously surpassed the maximum occupancy of the gallery, and despite overheating the sound system (twice!) we are delighted with how it went. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

Thanks again, also, to: our host Jon, Renea’ Le Roux, Veronica Lash, Talloolah Love, Naughtalie, Uncle Daddy, Ranch-Hand Andy, and all our friends and family who helped out (Bryant, Christina, Sheila, Rob, Cameron, Nik)… and of course, to Chris at Alcove.

The July Silver Scream Spook Show, It Came From Beneath The Sea, is Saturday! We’re looking forward to seeing you there - it was featured in Creative Loafing’s See & Do, so we’re also expecting to see some new people. It’s so great to watch the newcomers’ reactions to the silliness, especially when they don’t know what to expect.

Also, Blast-Off’s own Sadie Hawkins is interviewed in the July 23rd issue of Creative Loafing. The print version had an abridged interview, but the full text is online.

Don’t forget the second Blast-Off Sci-Fi A-Go-Go, too… just about a week away now. We’ve gotten previews of the acts and this one is going to be something else. Seriously. We’ll see you there, for sure!

We had a great time at Pride! Celebrating July 4th with Moxie was fantastic. The acts were creative and the performers were great.

Next up for us is the July Silver Scream Spook Show at the Plaza Theater on July 26th.

And don’t forget Blast-Off Burlesque: Go West on Saturday, August 2nd at Alcove Gallery! Friday, Sadie & Chinita will be dancing for Van Heineken at Luby’s in Lawrenceville. Three sets of the best Van Halen in town! If you didn’t catch us dancing with them at Monster Bash, now’s your chance…

Saturday is the TICKS fundraiser at The Five Spot. Mysteria, Chinita, Dickie, and Sadie will be performing as part of this music/film/performance/art extravaganza.
